I never thought I’d build my own business, but as I look back on the last 23 years, each step seems to have led me here.
It all began after I completed a Certificate in Business at AUT. One of my classes, "Introduction to Legal Systems," stirred an unexpected curiosity about law. Before I knew it, I worked as a receptionist for a new three-partner law firm in the city. Eager to learn, I juggled my full-time job with studying the Legal Executive Diploma (formerly Legal Executive Certificate).
My career path quickly progressed. From Receptionist, I moved to Secretary, then to Legal Executive, and eventually took on office administration responsibilities. During the 12 incredible years with this firm, I experienced every facet of managing the legal office, client interactions, office management, and more. I thrived in the busy, ever-changing atmosphere of a law firm.
When I moved to the North Shore, I joined a smaller firm run by a husband-and-wife team. My role as a Legal Executive expanded: I had my clients and took on diverse tasks like document drafting, trust account reconciliation, client onboarding, and even helped with marketing. This variety gave me a well-rounded understanding of a legal practice’s operations, and I loved the close connections with clients and colleagues.
Later, I joined a more prominent law firm with over 50 staff. While the work was rewarding, I missed the autonomy and versatility I’d enjoyed in smaller settings. Clearly, I preferred environments where I could make a broader impact.
Over time, I noticed a trend: many small firms and solo practitioners struggled with the daily demands of office administration. There seemed to be a gap in the market for someone with my wide range of skills, a “jack-of-all-trades” who could handle administration, trust accounts, compliance, and client files without a full-time commitment.
With two decades of experience in trust management, document preparation, client liaison, and operations, I knew I could offer valuable support to these firms. This realisation inspired me to start my own business.
Today, with a wealth of hands-on experience, I aim to help small law firms and solo practitioners streamline their practices. I provide flexible, on-call support so lawyers can focus on their expertise – practising law – while I handle the administrative load.
It’s been an incredible journey, and I look forward to supporting more law firms in reaching their full potential!
